Digital VoIP Gateways
The Most Resilient VoIP Digital Gateways in Their Class
Digital VoIP gateways are small stand-alone appliances which allow you to convert voice media between PRI (Primary Rate Interface) connections (which run over T1/E1 lines; BRI lines in the UK) and VoIP connections. They are the most cost-effective solution for businesses with a legacy phone system infrastructure which needs to connect to a VoIP network, such as a SIP trunk. They are also great for businesses which have an IP-based phone system and need to connect to the PSTN.
All you need to do is place the VoIP gateway at the edge of your network, plug in your existing internet connection to the gateway for VoIP connectivity and the T1/E1 cables from your phone system and the gateway will automatically handle everything to allow voice media to simply work, including fax.
Two types of digital VoIP gateways:
- T1/E1 VoIP Gateways are gateways fitted with digital ports which help you connect legacy phone systems to IP telephony networks. These gateways typically use ISDN PRI signaling that runs over the T1/E1 lines.
- BRI VoIP Gateways are gateways fitted with digital ports which help you connect BRI phones and legacy BRI phone systems to IP telephony networks. These gateways use ISDN BRI signaling that runs over the digital ports.

Digital Gateways are Best For:
- PSTN Trunking: Enabling IP-based phone systems to route calls to traditional PSTN connections like PRI or BRI as primary route or for resilience.
- SIP Trunking: Allow traditional, legacy TDM based phone systems to replace expensive connections like PRI (T1 / E1) or BRI with SIP trunking to allow reduced call costs, reduced line rental, and bring extra flexibility and disaster recovery.
