SARASOTA, FLA -- October 25, 2006 -- Star2Star Communications, maker of the world's most reliable business grade Internet phone solution, announces that three of its executives have been selected to speak at Astricon, the official Asterisk user and developer's conference. Asterisk, an advanced communications platform written as a software application, is the first open source PBX (private telephone network within a business) and is available for free. The 3rd annual Astricon Conference is being held in Dallas, Texas from October 24 through October 27 at the Dallas Westin Park Central hotel.
Joe Rhem, CTO and president of Star2Star is speaking on Thursday (October 26, 2006 at 2:50pm) about the Roadblocks to Business Grade VoIP (Salon Room D). This session will focus on the obstacles to providing a business grade reliable VoIP solution. Issues such as network reliability, bandwidth availability, Jitter, echo, failed hardware at the customer premise, failed NOC infrastructure and security problems will be highlighted. Mr. Rhem will reveal how each of these obstacles has an architectural, technological or best practice that solves the problem. Attendees will also go through the design of a solution that can provide superior reliability, high quality, and secure Internet based VoIP service for a business using Asterisk.
Kristian Keilhofner, creator of AstLinux and vice president of systems engineering, and Jamaal Savwoir, vice president of quality engineering, are speaking together on Thursday (October 26, 2006 at 2:00pm) with a session title of Business VoIP Done Right (Salon Room D). This presentation discusses how the number of business VoIP system deployments is increasing faster than ever which can cause installations to be rife with obscure technical problems and incompatibilities. Mr. Kielfhofenr and Mr. Savior will demonstrate the application of several techniques to ensure the quality and reliability of business grade VoIP systems and services.
Mr. Kielhofner is also part of a panel, The Embedded Asterisk Task Force, on Friday (October 27, 2006 at 2:30pm in Salon Rooms A-D). The tutorial focuses on how the running of Asterisk on embedded devices is ideal for many applications, particularly at the customer premise where support costs can be quite high. Three leaders of various embedded Asterisk projects will discuss the unique challenges of these environments as they apply to Asterisk, VoIP, and telephony. Also, a comparison of the capabilities of some unique hardware devices will be conducted in order to showcase the abilities of these platforms.
Astricon brings together providers and developers of several countries, and offers a range of conferences, seminars, workshops and an exhibition site that shows attendees firsthand the companies and developers providing solutions that support the Open Source PBX Asterisk.
